Ask eBay Inc.'s Bill Cobb the Tough Questions
On March 29th from 2:00 - 3:30 PM PT, Bill Cobb will be hosting yet another Town Hall event to answer questions from the community. eBay has started a discussion thread about this meeting to allow eBay members to ask questions that pertain to eBay. As I write this, there are now 200 posts to this thread. I encourage anyone with some spare time to ask a few questions on this thread.
Historically Town Hall's answer no questions that are serious, and if they do it is in some long drawn out reply that is twisted in a way to either not directly answer the real question or to show eBay in a good light.
Town Halls can be excruciating to listen to as well. But if you are feeling like you need to be enraged, they usually do the trick.

"Enraged" is a good word for it. I've attended these in the past and plan to attend the one tomorrow as well. I will have my "barf bag" close at hand.
One can only hope that eventually Bill, etal will be forced to address some of the common themes (SYI, search, technical site issues, rampant fraud, etc). One can only hope that the day is near at hand when Billy Boy can no longer give us that: "Really? I didn't know that!" response.
It baffles me how someone who has a major responsibility for running the largest internet auction site in the world, can not be aware of the posts that are made every day on the eBay discussion boards.
Granted, some of the posts have no merit and are posted by perpetual whiners, but so many do have mert. Yet they are all "cheerfully" ignored or glossed over by the grinning eBay minions.
I can't tell you how sick I am of the: "lets all join hands and sing kumbyaya!!" mentality. Instead of fixing the site mechanics, they continue to focus on the UI and add more useless features that none of us who buy and sell give a rip about.
And who are these people who continue to tell us to "clear our cache and delete your cookies" as the solution to everything that is wrong with eBay? What planet are they from? I "throw up my cookies" every time I hear from one of them! It has reached the point where I refuse to use the help feature any longer.
I feel so much better now....thank you for a place to rant :)
firemeg, I just wanted to thank you for doing all the research, publishing the your data and the super creative uTube videos.
I wish eBay had people like YOU working for them.
Based on your link on eBay forum I found out about the event, thank you.
I have posted a bunch of questions there.
I have listened to the broadcast for the first time ever. I have read the transcript from previous (January 2007) Town Hall to get a feel how these things work.
One of my posted questions was answered (phishing emails via My Messages) and I also got through on the phone with question about what are the possibilities of preventing email addresses in auction descriptions, it was answered.
I actually loved eBay and now it is a love-hate relationship. I love the concept, lovED the ability to source the products there and hate the fact they let Scam so blatantly rampant on the site for so many years that it completely eroded my ability to purchase anything over $100 there. I hated to take my companys equipment budget of $65,000 last year and not spend it on eBay. I bought the equipment new distributor/manufacturer direct although I wanted to purchase on eBay since that used to be my favorite place to source our company's needs. So instead of buying industrial printers and commercial embroidery machines on eBay, I buy printer consumables and embroidery thread there, those cost peanuts, so I am not concerned about being scammed on those small items. eBay could have had $65,000 of my business last year but instead ended up with just a few hundred dollars worth.
Anyway I wanted to post BIG THANK YOU for your efforts and tell you keep up the good work!
