Cyber Monday - eBay vs. Amazon.com

Amazon Gold Box Specials All Christmas Shopping Season Long!
Well it's Cyber Monday morning and all the ecommerce sites are all geared-up for it, well, except for eBay it seems. There is nary a mention of "Cyber Monday" on eBay's homepage. Sure, there are sale and discount graphics, but apparently eBay isn't hopping on the Cyber Monday bandwagon. If I were selling on eBay, this would be very troubling.
Amazon.com however, is driving the bandwagon. Their usual Gold Box Deals page is full of sale prices, discounts and specials on hundreds of items across many, if not all, of their many categories. In addition to that, Amazon has a special Cyber Monday Deals
page with special deals for today only. A stroll through some of their categories also reveals a lot of sale prices on other items as well.
While Amazon.com appears to be making major attempts to bring in new customers, eBay is making their feeble attempt to draw in more sellers by offering free listings until after the first of the year....something that, by the way, Amazon offers year round.
But it isn't just eBay competitor Amazon.com that is offering deals and making a big deal of Cyber Monday. Twitter is abuzz with #cybermonday trending highest. Do a search for any ecommerce giant (Wal-Mart, Target, Buy.com, Overstock.com, K-Mart, Sears...you get the idea) and chances are that they are running some sort of Cyber Monday sale.
Now granted, Cyber Monday isn't the biggest online shopping day of the year, that comes about the second Monday in December, but what's up eBay? The sellers who bring in the customers and who paid for Meg Whitman's vanity run for governor deserve to have at least one engineer make up one banner with a link for today, don't they?
